The NFL Weekly Recap: Week 6

Coronavirus is still impacting the United States every single day and it is affecting the NFL’s future scheduling. No more than 8 teams have had players or staff come back with positive tests. As yet, the league is still going ahead, but more and more protocols need to be put in place to prevent the virus from spreading throughout the world, not just in the league.

The Titans win in an epic match against the Texans

The first game of the week was probably also one of the best games of the week as the Tennessee Titans beat the Houston Texans 36-42 in overtime. Both offences played well all game as Deshaun Watson seems liberated without Bill O’Brien coaching him. For the Titans, the inescapable and powerful running back Derrick Henry had the second 90+-yard touchdown run of his career as he finished the game with over 200 yards. On top of that, Ryan Tannehill also had a remarkable game as he threw for 365 yards and 4 touchdowns. Houston was up 7 in the last minutes, but Tennessee scored a touchdown to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Houston lost the coin toss and Tennessee chose to attack which basically meant the game was over as Houston’s defence can’t stop a nosebleed right now. Tennessee did score a touchdown on their first drive to win the game and keep their undefeated record alive.

The Colts comeback to beat the Bengals

Our next game was a huge comeback by the Indianapolis Colts against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals jumped out to a 21-0 lead but the Colts were not done yet. The Colts fought back and were only down 3 points by the half. Joe Burrow then threw a costly interception on the last drive as the Colts won the game 27-31.

The Falcons get their first win of the season

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Minnesota Vikings quite easily. Atlanta found their second breath after the firing of head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Dimitrov. They managed to score 10 points every quarter as they were in full control of the game the whole time. The Vikings looked desperate, as they fell to 1-5 by losing 40-23.

The New England Patriots fall short again

The Denver Broncos get a surprising win over the New England Patriots. Denver scored 6 field goals in a low scoring game. The Broncos almost got in trouble with some fourth-quarter interceptions, but they were able to hold off the Patriots for an 18-12 win.

This is the first time the Patriots have a losing record this far in the season in 12 years.

The New York Giants get their first win of 2020

Another low scoring game happened between the Washington Football Team and the New York Giants. The game was close all throughout, but the Giants managed to pull out a 19-20 win. Kyle Allen scored a late touchdown, but instead of kicking the extra point, Ron Rivera opted to try for a 2-point conversion which failed and handed the game to the Giants to claim their first win.

The Ravens get a dramatic win against the Eagles

The Baltimore Ravens managed to hold off the Philadelphia Eagles for a surprisingly close win. The Ravens defence played outstanding in the first half as they shut out the Eagles, but everything fell apart in the fourth quarter. The Eagles managed to score 22 points in one quarter to get back into the game. Luckily, Justin Tucker scored 2 important field goals and the defence stopped a 2 point conversion as the Ravens won 30-28.

The Steelers dominate the Browns

The Pittsburgh Steelers blow out the Cleveland Browns in this easy matchup in week 6. The Browns seemed to have found their stride but were completely shut down by the Steelers’ defence. On the other side of the football, the Steelers offence kept rolling as Chase Claypool kept up his great form with another great performance. The Steelers eventually beat their eternal rival 7-38.

The Bears continue their form with another win against the Panthers

The Chicago Bears keep up their good form with another win against the Carolina Panthers. Chicago’s defence is proving that they are still one of the best in the league and because of this great defence, Nick Foles just has to avoid making mistakes and keep his form consistent. The Bears are now sitting first in the NFC North while the Panthers seem in dire need of Christian McCaferey to create more on offense. The Bears eventually won 23-16 to extend their winning streak to 3.

The Detroit Lions win against the out of form Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars form continues to get worse with their fifth lose in a row. The Detroit Lions won 34-16 behind a strong game from running back D’Andre Swift who ran for more than 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Miami put on a show two weeks in a row

The Miami Dolphins completely shut out the New York Jets as the Jets look even worse than the week before. The Dolphins even put Rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa at the end of the game. The Dolphins management liked a lot of what they saw as they named Tua starting quarterback for week 7. The Jets didn’t seem to think they don’t have to change as they still haven’t fired head coach Adam Gase.

The Buccaneers give a complete performance against the Packers

The most anticipated game of the week was between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers, two future hall-of-fame quarterbacks Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers faced off. The Packers jumped out to a 10-0 lead but then gave up 38 unanswered points.

Tom Brady completely dominated the QB duel with over 100 yards and two TD’s. The Buc’s also intercepted Rodgers twice with one of them being a pick-six only the third of Rodgers carer. The game ended 38-10.

The 49ers get the win against division rivals

The San Francisco 49ers beat division rival Los Angeles Rams in a 16-24 win. Jimmy Garoppolo had his first solid game since his return as he threw for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Rams offense continued to struggle but will look to improve in the upcoming weeks.

Kansas City Chiefs beat the tough Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes breaks record

Another interesting game between two strong teams took place in Buffalo when the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs. Both teams struggled to throw the ball but the Chiefs were the difference with their running game totalling to 245 yards. Patrick Mahomes also made history by being the fastest QB to 90 TD passes. Mahomes achieved this record in just 37 games. The previous record was held by Dan Marino who did it in 40 games. With Leveon Bell joining the Chiefs in the upcoming week they will add more firepower to their already-strong offensive line. The game finished 26-17 to the Cheifs.

The Arizona Cardinals defeat a weakened Dallas Cowboy team

The final game of the week was played between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys once again looked very poor defensively as Arizona managed to score 38 points quite easily. On the other side of the ball, the Cowboys offence fell flat without the injured Dak Prescott. The Cowboys have other star players who just did not show up, especially with Ezekiel Elliot fumbling the ball twice. If the Cowboys want to turn it around they will need to make a lot of changes after this 38-10 loss.
