Round of 16
There were no surprises to be had in this round, with the higher seeded players advancing in all but one of the eight matches that took place.
Only Jordan Spieth seeded 49, lost out to Matt Kuchar who was given the 52 seed for the tournament. In that tightly contested match, Spieth led on many occasions and only fell behind once, on the final hole.
The biggest surprise was to see Ian Poulter get dominated by Scottie Scheffler. The latter took the lead on the 3rd hole. Further wins on the 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th holes wrapped up the match with four holes to go.
The match between Bubba Watson and Brian Harman witnessed the comeback of the round. Watson went 4-up after five holes, which seemed to wake up Brian Harman.
Harman birdied the next eight holes in a row to completely turn the game on its head. Although Bubba Watson rallied again, Harman took the win with a hole to spare.
Shot of the round was definitely the hole-in-one by Tommy Fleetwood on the 4th which stunned Dylan Frittelli.
Seeding in parentheses
Billy Horschel (32) bt Tommy Fleetwood (21) 19 holes
Fleetwood was in control. Horschel stuck around. One big shank by Fleetwood on the playoff hole was enough to send him on his way home.
Victor Perez (31) bt Sergio Garcia (39) 4 & 3
A match that went back and forth between two players at the complete opposite end of their careers. It was the inexperienced Frenchman, Perez, who was able to play with consistency and pull away.
Scottie Scheffler (30) bt Jon Rahm (3) 3 & 1
Scheffler took the lead early, added to it, and then never allowed Rahm an opportunity to win the match. When it looked like Rahm had a sniff of a chance after putting himself one shot behind after nine holes, Scheffler made six birdies and two pars which was more than enough.
Matt Kuchar (52) bt Brian Harman (54) 2 & 1
Matt Kuchar is never going to win or lose a match by a big margin. He just goes about his business, plays consistent golf and waits for the opposition to make errors. Which is what he did to Brian Harman.

Not the semi-final line-up anybody would have predicted, yet, it’s the line-up we have. Without a standout player, it is anyone’s title.
