The Champions League Recap: Semi-Finals: Leg 1

We bring you all the biggest headlines from this week’s latest round of Champions League action. Real Madrid host Chelsea and Manchester City travel to the Parc des Princes Stadium to take on PSG in the first leg of the Semi-Finals.

Honours even in Madrid

Chelsea will be taking an important away goal back home into the second leg of this fixture after they earned a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

The visitors started the game the brighter of the two teams and almost went ahead when Timo Werner saw his close range effort superbly saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Tuchel’s men did eventually take the lead on 14 minutes when Christian Pulisic controlled a brilliant ball over the top from Antonio Rudiger to go around the goalkeeper and smash home into an empty net.

The hosts found the equaliser just before the half-hour mark when Militao headed the ball back across the face of goal which was met by none other than Karim Benzema who finished with a magnificent acrobatic volley into the roof of the net.

The reverse fixture of this game is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 5th at Stamford Bridge with an 8pm kick-off.

Manchester City get two away goals to seal first leg victory

Manchester City have got one foot in the Champions League final after they came back from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes Stadium.

The hosts opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Marquinhos met the corner from Angel Di Maria to glance his header home at the near post.

Pep Guardiola’s men found the equaliser just past the hour mark when Kevin De Bruyne whipped in a pacy cross which evaded everyone and ended up going straight into the back of the net.

City got the winner in the 71st-minute when Riyad Mahrez curled a stunning left-footed free-kick into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Kaylor Navas to give his team two important away goals heading into the second leg.

This match is due to take place next week on Tuesday May 4th at the Etihad with an 8pm kick-off.
